Ever since she found the body of a dead girl from her school, Ina’s life has been spinning out of control further and further. Just because her friend Aaron is being questioned about the crime and she has defended him really vehemently against the accusations, she and her family are being subjected to loads of abuse. Then she is suddenly suspected of having committed the murder herself. To top it all, an old friend suddenly turns up, in pursuit of an old debt. Ina soon finds herself caught up in a web of lies and can’t trust anyone any more, not even Aaron.

The reader is just as confused as Ina, and their uncertainty about what to believe increases with every turn of the page. Janet Clark weaves a constantly tightening web of little half-truths and statements, which closes ever more firmly around her characters. She uses two alternative viewpoints
to bring her characters very close, and draws her readers skilfully into their experiences, leading them astray over and over again. Until, finally, nothing is what it seems.
